Perfect Defense
Look closely at the picture. It's the kind of photo true soccer fans appreciate at first glance. It's picture perfect defense.

The shot was taken at the 1st Open European Championships, Kiev, Ukraine. Look closely. English Team Captain Steve Johnson, in grey, has taken his shot. His leg in in a forward position.

But Ukranian defenseman Yura Prokhorento will have none of it. Yura's foot is across Steve's and the ball is coming toward the camera.

Which means with split second timing, Yura cleared the ball as Steve took the shot, the Ukranian desfenseman thereby preventing the British shot on goal.

As a further example of the caliber of play exhibited by these two athletes, Yura was voted best defenseman of the tournament, Steve was voted best offensive player.
